Authors & Illustrators
A graduate of Grinnell College and the University of Iowa, Caroline Arnold intended to have a career in art. Her interest in children's books began with the idea of becoming an illustrator but soon changed to writing as she found she enjoyed that as much or more than drawing. Today, she no longer illustrates and has instead teamed up with photographer Richard Hewett for most of her recent books.
Now, with more than fifty titles to her credit, Caroline takes young readers with her into the world of koalas or kangaroos, back in time to the Ice Age, or into the awe-inspiring excitement generated by a juggler's hands.
"I've always been curious and I love finding out new and amazing facts, " she says. "One of the things I like best about writing is gathering information for a new book."
The hardest part of writing a book for her, Caroline adds, is putting the words down on paper. "Whether the project is a story or an informational book, I am always happy when it is finished and I've managed to include everything I wanted to say in a way that I hope will please and excite young readers."
A part-time teacher in the Writers' Program at UCLA, Caroline lives in Los Angeles with her husband and cats.
