Smith, Craig

Craig Smith is one of Australia's most popular and prolific children's book artists, having illustrated over 200 titles. Billy the Punk and Bob the Builder and the Elves are just two of his award-winning books. His recent Troy Thomson's Excellent Poetry Book hasn't won anything (yet), but Craig is enormously fond of the montage approach to the illustrations. Craig lives outside of Melbourne in Southern Australia surrounded by parrots, kookaburras, kangaroos, and rabbits. He has two nearly grown children and would really like to write a book, but wonders where do ideas for stories come from? The best thing about being an illustrator, he says, is listening to the radio all day maybe that's where ideas for stories come from
