Pam Conrad
A writer since childhood, Pam has nineteen acclaimed books in print and more under contract with HarperCollins, disney, Harcourt, Scholastic, and Philomel. "I love to write," she says. "I don't think I could not write. I found out so much about my characters as I'm writing, it's like finding out about myself."Publishing a string of successful novels for young adults wasn't always easy. As Pam geared up to write about Nebraska's early women settlers, several editors tried to convince her that young people weren't reading historical novels anymore. But Pam plowed ahead and wrote Prairie Songs, which promptly won a multitude of awards, including the 1986 International Reading Association's Children's Book Award. Another book of Pam's, Stonewords, won the Edgar Allen Poe Award.Her picture books, such as The Tub People, reveal Pam's eye for detail. She has contributed essays and articles to Publishers Weekly, McCall's, the New York Times, Newsday, and Newsweek. Her poetry has been published in various anthologies. One of her latest books, Zoe Rising, is being released by HarperCollins in July of this year.
