Background: Margriet has been speaking at conferences and in schools for 12 years and has published 17 books, including Wild Babies, Emma's Egg, Big Little Dog, Logan's Lake, and Fireweed. She has published work in Chirp and Highflyer magazine, has done translations, and has received several honors for her work, including a Storytellers World Award, Silver Seal, and Mr. Christie Award of Excellence. Margriet, who earned a master's degree in education from Simon Fraser University, teaches courses in writing for children. Who am I? "I am married to my best friend and we have two grown sons. I have an accent because I was born and raised in The Netherlands. We have traveled extensively and moved 18 times in 20 years. I like to putter in the garden or sit by the fireplace with a good book or my laptop. I've been writing all my life and can't think of anything more fun to do for a living!"My favorite character from children's literature is: "The Bat in The Bat-Poet by Randell Jarrell because he wants to write poetry and follows his heart."
